Declaration of the Human Rights Network
of Rio Grande do Norte
Still in the middle of the 20th
and 21st centuries, in that moment that the human conscience finds
itself between a dark night and a the dawn of a new day
Feeling more and more each
time that the new name of peace is human rights
Understanding that we can no
longer neglect the existence of horrendous human rights violations
Knowing that a fight is only
dignified if it is a fight that betters the human character and that makes us
happy and proud to belong to the same species, the human species
Victims of a system that
praises technique and rejects ethics; that reduces the human condition to a
mere number in the statistics of economic value
Passionate to give rise to a
new world, a new order, a new culture, and a new way of life
Hopeful that we all,
together, will be able to make our greatest longings and our most outrageous
dreams a reality
We announce the birth of
The Human Rights Network of Rio Grande do Norte
A network that will connect
hopes and longings
A network that will promote
the dignity of men, women, children, young people, adults, and senior citizens
A network that includes
everyone
A network constructed on the
foundations of justice and ethics, of rights and desires, and on a passion for
life
A network that will isolate
the virus of racism and all forms of discrimination
A network that combats the
illness that distorts human nature and favors one sex over the other
A network where the words
fight and solidarity resound 24 hours a day, 12 months a year, going through
all the four seasons underneath the sign of peace and tolerance
A network that promotes
dialogue and understanding between religions and philosophies
A network apt to translate
into action the efforts and struggles that set ablaze past generations of
visionaries and dreamers, poets and prophets, leaders and fighters.
Ultimately, a network that
will give validity to human rights for all the Potiguares!!*
Natal (RN), Northeast of Brazil, November 2001.
*Potiguar is a Portuguese term used to describe those who
are originally from the northeast of Brazil.
